Masterclass - Heads we win, tails you lose. Why don't more fund managers offer symmetric performance fees?

Retail investors place a great deal of faith in the fund management industry and have a clear interest in its essential output - investment returns. But how can investors be sure that their own interests are aligned with those of the managers that have been entrusted as custodians of such a vast amount of wealth?
In this Masterclass Professor Payne will discuss the findings of his recent research, carried out with fellow academics from Cass Business School's Centre for Asset Management, which has identified a clear incentive mismatch between the best interests of investors and managers and found that there is no single structure that simultaneously maximises both the investors' and the managers' utility. The results of this research give rise to the question, that will be discussed at this Masterclass, Since investors would prefer symmetric performance-based fees, why don't more fund managers offer such fees?
