Alumni Expert Panel: Navigating Career Change and Achieving Success

Hosted by Dr Sara Silvestri, Senior Lecturer in International Politics at City, University of London, this event will feature an expert panel discussion on the topic of overcoming barriers in career change and achieving success.The panel discussion will be followed by a Q&A, where you are invited to pose your own questions and share your views. 

This event will give participants an excellent opportunity to engage in expert talks and thought-provoking conversation about career change with fellow alumni, students and academics.

Speakers Profile

Dimitrios Mavridis.

Dimitrios Mavridis (MA International Politics, 2010) - UK Mission to the EU, Deputy Spokesperson

Dimitrios is a senior communications professional currently working for the UK Government in Brussels. Prior to this he has run a European election campaign for a network of 100,000 activists and advised a lobby of asset managers how to communicate their new governance in Brussels. He has also completed a European Commission traineeship and received British Empire Medal for services to UK Foreign policy. He is a City University M.A. International Politics graduate and to this day enjoys watching theories of International Relations applied in practice in the world's most integrated multilateral governance model.

Sophia Akram (MA International Politics & Human Rights, 2010) - Open Rights Group, Editor and Policy Manager (Sector Support); Freelance Journalist 

Sophia Akram is a freelance journalist with an interest in geopolitics and human rights and their intersections with lifestyle, business and tech; featured in Al Jazeera, Vice and other outlets. She is also a part-time freelance editor at the World Economic Forum and Policy Manger for Sector Support at Open Rights Group, working across digital rights, policing, surveillance, violence against women and girls and migrant rights.

Tomás Sabat Stöfsel (BSc International Politics, 2013) - Vaticle, Chief Operating Officer and Founding Team

Tomás is the Chief Operating Officer and part of the Founding Team at Vaticle, creators of TypeDB and TypeQL. He works closely with their open source and enterprise users who use TypeDB to build applications in a wide number of industries including financial services, life sciences, cyber security and supply chain management. A graduate of the University of Cambridge, Tomás has spent the last eight years founding and building businesses in the technology industry.
