The Writers and their work
Nikki Racklin
Nikki completed the MA in Creative Writing (Screenwriting & Playwriting) at City in 2014. She has won numerous international awards for her RTÉ-commissioned web series CUCKOO, including Best Writer (IAWTV Awards, Las Vegas) and Outstanding Writing (LA Web Fest). Her short film MISSED CALL recently screened at the London Short Film Festival and the TriForce Short Film Festival, and her TV drama HOOKED has just been longlisted by the BBC Writersroom. Nikki wrote the libretto for LOVE ME TO DEATH, a modern opera about Ruth Ellis, which was staged at the Barbican Pit. Several of Nikki’s short plays have been performed in fringe theatres in London and beyond, and she has just completed the book and lyrics to her first musical. Nikki has recently been taken on by Berlin Associates.
TANYA & DEL - Trainee hairdresser Justine finds her easygoing nature under threat when her upstairs neighbour – 40-something party animal Tanya, a carer for her morbidly obese mother – nabs a new boyfriend, an unlikely lothario by the name of Del.
Emma Morgan
Emma has been a professional writer more than half her life, first seeing her name in print in the NME at the age of 17, when she began reviewing gigs in her hometown of Manchester. She moved to London after completing a BA in English Lit at the University of Sheffield, to write for Select magazine. She then took an MA in Film: Culture & Industry at the University of Westminster, after which she switched to writing about movies for Total Film and ELLE. She recently completed the MA in Creative Writing (Screenwriting & Playwriting) at City, during which she wrote UNIDENTIFIED, a feature-length crime thriller which she’s further developed through the NFTS Diploma in Script Development, as LONE. Inspired by her stint as a music journalist, last year she wrote a Britpop sitcom, POPSCENE!, then began work on THE MED, extracts from which won her a place on the Creative Skillset-supported Talent Campus organised by the London Screenwriters’ Festival.
THE MED - An uptight, idealistic young female medical student gets a crash course in love, life and death while interning in a notoriously hedonistic Corfu holiday resort.
THUMBS DOWN - When she discovers his plans to leave, a farmer is appalled at her labourer’s disloyalty.
Mark Hibbett
Mark Hibbett has spent a quarter of a century in indie bands. He released one of the world's first ever internet singles (HEY HEY 16K), performed live on Radio One, had a Record Of The Year in Rolling Stone, an Album Of The Day on 6Music, and his seventh album is due for release later this year. He's had work performed all around the country and has written and performed in six musicals which have appeared at the Edinburgh, Camden, Brighton, Buxton and Reading Fringe Festivals. Since completing the MA in Creative Writing (Screenwriting & Playwriting) at City he’s had success in several major screenwriting competitions, reaching the finals of the Stage 32 Happy Writers TV Writing Contest, Bluecat Feature Screenplay Competition, Final Draft Big Break Screenwriting Contest and Scriptapalooza TV.
