Synopsis of the Masterclass

Was European Monetary Union a marriage made in heaven or hell?  In this Masterclass Andrew Clare will review the euphoria that preceded the formation of the Euro, and explain why the source of the current Eurozone crisis can be traced back to this period of optimism.  He will argue that European politicians, in their haste to create the Euro, ignored the sort of basic economic truths with which any economics undergraduate would be familiar.  He will then move on to consider some of the possible remedies for the Eurozone crisis, and the likely future for both Eurozone citizens and for countries that see trade with Eurozone nations as a crucial part of their own economic futures.
